How do GLP-1 medications like semaglutide and tirzepatide work?
Semaglutide is a medication that helps control appetite and regulate blood sugar levels, making weight loss more manageable. Tirzepatide acts on two appetite and blood-sugar hormone pathways, GIP and GLP-1. Both are taken as a once-weekly injection.[1][2]
Semaglutide
A GLP-1 receptor agonist taken once a week. In the STEP 1 trial, adults taking weekly semaglutide lost an average of 14.9% of their body weight over 68 weeks, compared with 2.4% on placebo.[1]
Tirzepatide
A once-weekly medication that acts on both GIP and GLP-1 receptors. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial, adults lost an average of 15.0% to 20.9% of their body weight over 72 weeks, depending on dose, compared with 3.1% on placebo.[2]
Individual results vary. In these trials, medication was combined with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
Who is a candidate for GLP-1 weight loss?
Prescription GLP-1 weight-loss medications are approved for adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with at least one weight-related health condition, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or high cholesterol.[3][4]
Your TruTrim program begins with an in-depth assessment of your metabolic profile to identify the most effective treatment options for you. Your provider reviews your health history and decides whether a GLP-1 medication is right for you.

What side effects should I expect, and how am I monitored?
The most common side effects are digestive, such as nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and constipation.[3][4] In the major trials, these were mostly mild to moderate and tended to ease over time.[1][2]
We believe that successful weight loss goes beyond medication. That’s why our TruTrim program includes regular monitoring and personalized support to ensure sustainable and healthy weight management, with an approach that encompasses physical and mental health aspects.
